Festivals
Seasonal festivals have been celebrated for thousands of years and help to connect humanity with the rhythms of nature. This is even more important today as people experience greater distance from the seasonality of food and the wonders of each season.
Our seasonal festivals are held for all ages throughout the school. There is joy in the preparation, the anticipation, and the celebration itself.
In Term 1 the school’s Autumn Fair and Open Day is a wonderful family event, drawing visitors from all over the region to enjoy live music, a vibrant artisan’s marketplace, wholesome children’s activities and delicious food.
Harvest Festival follows at the end of term. The classes come together for baked apples, music an stories to mark the coming of the cooler months.
Winter Solstice is celebrated with a reverent night-time gathering. Under the starry sky families share warm soup, community singing and a candlelit lantern walk through the school’s Wetlands. A highlight of the Winter Festival is the fire dance, performed by our Class 6 students.
Spring Festival is a colourful, joyous occasion with kites, games, and folk dancing in Primary School, and a festive gathering in the Magic Woods for the Early Childhood.
Summer Festival our last for the year, is when the teachers give to the children. In Early Childhood, the end of the year culminates with a celebration for St Nicholas Day.
Cultural festivals such as the Japanese Tanabata Festival and the Festival of Spirit and Word are held as significant dates arrive.
