Reconciliation

Freshwater Creek Steiner School is committed to Reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We acknowledge the original spiritual sovereignty of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, that comes from “the ancestral tie between the land, or ‘mother nature’, and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who were born therefrom, remain attached thereto, and must one day return thither to be united with our ancestors”. We acknowledge this spiritual sovereignty has never been ceded or extinguished and co-exists with the sovereignty of the Crown.

FWCSS supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander aspirations for “a better future for our children” as expressed in the 2017 Uluru Statement from the Heart.

The Australian Steiner Curriculum Framework seeks to fully embrace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the education of all children. At FWCSS we consciously include indigenous perspectives in the study of Australian History, local environment, craft, music and seasonal festivals. Reconciliation Week is celebrated at our Festival of Spirit and Word.

Staff participate regularly in Cultural Education to maintain awareness of the lived experience of First Nations children and families, in contemporary Australia.

FWCSS is in the process of developing its first Reconciliation Action Plan.

Steiner Education Australia (SEA), the peak body for Steiner Education in Australia, is committed to building mutually respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to exploring in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the alignment between Steiner education and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and cultural and spiritual perspectives – pedagogically, environmentally and socially. SEA is committed to working continually to renew clarity of this alignment and its inclusion and application within the Australian Steiner Curriculum, framework, teaching methodologies and resources*
